Evolution of Nissan GT-R: A Comprehensive History⑤R35

15/11/2024/0 Comments/in Interactive blog

The Nissan GT-R R35, launched in 2007, represents a bold new era for the GT-R nameplate, marking its return after a hiatus following the R34. Unlike previous Skyline GT-R models, the R35 was a standalone model, shedding the “Skyline” name but still embodying the performance and engineering legacy of its predecessors.

Key Features:

  • Engine: The R35 is powered by the VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, producing around 480 horsepower in the early models, with later variants reaching 600+ horsepower in the Nismo versions. This engine features advanced technologies like direct fuel injection and dual variable valve timing, offering incredible power, responsiveness, and tuning potential.
  • Transmission: The R35 uses a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), offering lightning-fast gear shifts, much quicker than traditional manuals. It also employs the ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system, optimizing traction in all conditions and making the R35 a formidable performer on both track and street.
  • Handling: The R35 features a sophisticated Bilstein DampTronic suspension system and Super-HICAS (four-wheel steering), providing superior handling, agility, and stability at high speeds. The car is well-balanced, with a near 50/50 weight distribution, ensuring excellent cornering and high-speed stability.
  • Design: The R35’s design is more modern and aggressive than its predecessors, with a muscular and aerodynamic stance. It features wider fenders, a signature wide front grille, and the iconic quad circular tail lights. While the design is evolutionary, it still carries the unmistakable GT-R DNA.
  • Technology: The R35 is packed with modern tech, including an advanced multi-function display that shows real-time performance data, Nissan’s Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), and active aerodynamics that help maintain stability at high speeds. It also incorporates advanced braking technology like Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes on higher-performance models.
  • Performance: The R35 is an absolute powerhouse, with a 0-60 mph time of under 3 seconds in its later variants, making it one of the fastest cars in the world for its price range. Its lap times on race tracks like the Nürburgring are competitive with much more expensive supercars.

Legacy:

The R35 GT-R has been widely praised for its remarkable combination of performance, technology, and value. It’s a car that can go toe-to-toe with world-class supercars, but at a much more accessible price. Its dominant performance in motorsports, particularly in Japan’s Super GT series, helped solidify its legendary status.

Despite being in production for over a decade with only minor updates, the R35 continues to be a favorite among enthusiasts, thanks to its incredible tuning potential, refinement, and undying appeal as a “Godzilla” on the streets. The GT-R R35 has firmly established itself as a modern automotive icon.
